FAYETTE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Job Title: Children’s Room Clerk (Part-Time) Job Level: Clerk Department: Youth Services Reports To: Assistant Director FLSA Status: Nonexempt Prepared Date: 2/13/2013 SUMMARY: Performs a variety of clerical and semiprofessional duties, plans and implements programs, provides limited reference and reader's advisory service, and assists in maintaining the collection in the Youth Services Department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Assists patrons in finding the location of materials; the circulation of library materials; the use of the on-line catalog and in the use of other library resources in the Children’s Room. 2. Under the direction of the Children’s Librarian and Assistant Director, conducts programs, coordinates tours, and visitations, including selecting instructional materials and activities, and scheduling and registration. 3. Assists the Children’s Librarian and Assistant with weeding, pulling damaged materials, correcting previously cataloged materials, and ordering and processing miscellaneous materials. Edits records of Children’s Room materials as instructed. 4. Handles repairs of books that are still able to be used and/or circulated. 5. Processes AV materials and J novels. 6. Assists with keeping the Children’s Room, including the shelves, orderly. 7. Assists with special projects, displays and campaigns. 8. Provides input for the development of departmental goals. 9. Works as scheduled by the Assistant Director. May work at the Adult Services Desk as needed. 10. Assists the Children’s Librarian with processing overdues, billing and collections for the Children’s Room. 11. Builds and maintains storytime crafts and take home craft kits. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job trains and supervises volunteers in the department. Ability to write routine reports and simple correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of children and/or adults. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Qualifications
High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Requirements: Excellent customer service and telephone skills. Computer skills (e.g. searching online catalog, databases, Internet, email, basic Microsoft Office). Preferred: Previous work in a library is a plus. Ability to work well with children and young adults. Knowledge and/or prior experience in the following areas: filing; organization (arrangement); good customer service and the ability to work as a team member.
Salary
$7.50 to $8.25 per hr.

CONNERSVILLE: TEEN/YOUNG ADULT LIBRARIAN (Part-Time)

Job Title: Teen/Young Adult Services Assistant Department: Adult Services Reports To: Assistant Director FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Prepared Date: 01/2013 SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Librarian, plans, implements, and manages library services and programs to young teens (tweens) and young adults. Incumbent must maintain constant contact and collaboration with young adults (typically ages 12-18) with diverse backgrounds and abilities. The Young Adult Services Assistant is responsible for maintaining social networking sites to appeal to young adults. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the incumbent troubleshoots Children’s Room computers and technology. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, plans and coordinates the services and programs for Tweens and Young Adults. Recommends goals and procedures for Children’s Services to the Assistant Director. 2. Knowledge of recreational and educational needs of young adults. 3. Assists with reaching goals stated in the Long Range Strategic Plan adopted by the Library Board of Trustees. 4. Participates in Tween and Young Adult collection development and the evaluation process; including selection, ordering and cataloging/processing of materials, weeding, withdrawing damaged materials, and compiling bibliographies. 5. Knowledge of current trends in library services for young adults and young adult literature and other materials for youth. 6. Under the direction of the Assistant Director, initiates, plans, and conducts a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library by young adults between the ages of 12 and 18, including but not limited to films and special events, reading clubs, and school and community outreach. 7. Provides direct assistance to patrons with basic information regarding use of library materials, equipment, and services. 8. Provides readers advisory service and assists patrons with questions, use of the on-line catalog and other library resources, including online databases, etc. 9. Recommends purchases for the departmental budget to the Assistant Director and prepares monthly and annual reports for the Director and Assistant Director. 10. Maintains and cultivates contact with parents and other family members, the public, schools, teachers, other libraries, town employees, state and regional library associations, and other professional organizations. Serves as a liaison to the local school district and homeschooling families, if appropriate. 11. Designs promotional brochures, displays and other materials. 12. Requests supplies for programs from the Assistant Director in a timely manner. 13. Attends professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates daily activities of staff and volunteers assigned to young adults. Demonstrated experience working with children and teens is required. Previous professional library experience, especially in a supervisory capacity preferred. Ability and willingness to participate in continuing educational opportunities is required. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to write articles and press releases for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Must be able to speak distinctly to large groups. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Qualifications
Indiana Library Certificate 4; experience working with middle school and high school children. Requirements: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to work as a team member. Computer skills (e.g. searching online catalog, databases, Internet, email, basic Microsoft Office). Knowledge of social networking sites. Preferred: Previous work in a library is a plus. Knowledge and/or prior experience in the following areas: computer troubleshooting, library technology.
Salary
$8.25 to $8.35 per hr.
